Modeling irregular objects is one of the most challenge research areas in realistic graphics. This thesis discusses and studies on hardware based irregular objects modeling and rendering, it mainly studied hardware accelerated real-time volume rendering and hardware based particle system.Hardware accelerated volume rendering technique is the key point of this thesis. We improved on the traditional 3D texture volume rendering method, put forward a self-adaptive 3D texture volume rendering, enable the main processes of volume rendering like filter, interpolating, post classification and shading done by Fragment Shader in GPU. Sufficient experimentation shows that we could reach a good frame rate and a satisfied image quality, which could be compared to the result of ray casting. And then we put forward a Ping-Pang rendering model to render gas dynamic data, the result shows that this model has the advantage of small video texture occupation, high precision of rendering, thus could fluently reproduced the effect of gas spread dynamically.As another technique of modeling irregular objects, particle system has a broad application area. This thesis utilizes GLSL, makes the special attributes as self defined ones, and updates the states of the particle system in vertex Shader, improved the rendering speed significantly and has a better interaction between human and computer.
