Network Education, an important reform in the development process ofeducation system, break through the traditional education system and model. People caneasily acquire knowledge and participate in fair competition through network.Web-based Course, with the characteristics such as interactivity, sharability, openness,autonomy, cooperation, occupies a central position in network education. Thus,Construction of web-based course is an important aspect of network education. Researchand development of web-based course has great theoretical meanings and practical valuesbased on universities' favorable network environment.Following aspects are discussed, and a prototype system is realized.1. Discussion of related pedagogical theories and construction standardTheories of humanism, constructivism, metacognition are all instructive to thedevelopment of web-based course. Based on analyses of these theories, functions ofpedagogical theories in the development of web-based course are discussed in emphasis.Modern Distance Education Resource Construction Technical Specifcation is instructivein unifying behaviors of developers, resource development requirements andmanagement of system's functional requirement. A web-based course platform modelbased on pedagogical theories and construction standard is presented.2. Research of integration of knowledge management (KM) and web-basedcourse platformKM combines the process and application of technological tools to digitize, store,and make universally available, via electronic networks, the ongoing creation andtransference of knowledge and wisdom throughout the lifestyle of the educationalexperience. KM expands knowledge scope, and embodies the human-oriented ideathrough construction of mechanism and platform that support the interaction of tacitknowledge and explicit knowledge.3. Analysis of system modeling and implementation techniquesModeling simplifies the reality; Implementation of modeling is a key element ofsuccessful software development. UML, including its views, diagrams and applicationextension mechanism, is discussed. J2EE/Struts framework implements MVC (Model-View-Controller) design pattern,and provides universal framework for web application. Developers can concentrate on thelogical problems, and also can enlarge or customize the framework when needed.4. Development of prototype systemThe prototype system of web-based course platform is realized based on the analysisof pedagogical theories, KM theory and Struts framework. Design of modules is guidedby pedagogical theories, and organization of knowledge is guided by KM theories. Thedesign scheme based on knowledge point, which associated with the related modules.Thus, the content of related modules is classified, also expands the content of course, andas a result expands the knowledge scope. Development technology guaranteesmaintainability, good transplantation and scalability of the system.
