The Research And Application Of Domain Ontology Construct Methods

Ontology originated in philosophy. Aristotle defined "Ontology" as the science about "being" in the world. Since 1990s, ontology has been introduced in Artificial Intelligence, Knowledge Engineering and Library & Information sciences. And then the definition of ontology has been changed. In Library & Information science, ontology is a vocabulary with the specification of relationships between terms in a special domain.Ontology is the base of both the scientific research and artificial intelligence ,it plays a important role in the thought, information spread, organization and searches. The main function of constructing ontology is: getting common cognition between the humans and the software agent for conversation of people and machine; Making the domain knowledge shared and reused; Making the different system and model operated between each other.At present there is not mature and unified methodology to instruct the work of the ontology construction, establishing the relative integrated domain ontology. Not only needs to catch the massive concepts, the terminology, moreover must deal with semantic conflict and ambiguity of these concepts and terminology. This causes the work of establishing ontology to become both dull and difficult duty, becomes the bottleneck of gaining knowledge.The ontological theory and method have been described systematically on the basis of intensive investigation of large number of documents and web pages on ontology studying in this paper. The origin, definition, type and role of ontology have been described. The state of arts of ontology research in China and foreign countries has been introduced. With the guidance of theory, this research constructed a demonstrating domain ontology based on computer technology subject domain.
