With the on-going popularity and rapid development of mobile computing terminals and the wireless network, Mobile Learning is becoming one of the most popular research and development topics in today's E-Learning practice. However, most of the existing work is still based on SMS or browser model which cannot satisfy user demands for real-time, interactivity and personalization. In recent years, the hardware performance of smart phone is gradually increasing and the software platform is becoming stable with powerful functions. These all render a favorable condition for the implementation of more advanced mobile learning system. From the perspective of the personalized education theory, the thesis demonstrates the research and implementation of an integrated set of personalized courseware system. The system can free students from learning only in classroom and enables students learn at any time and any place by sending the main scenario of spot class and courseware to the Symbian smart phone through Bluetooth network. The main contributions of this thesis are as follows:1. Based on the personalized education theory, we aim at improving traditional teaching model and implementing personalized teaching and curriculum reform, and try to find the joint point of traditional teaching model and modern teaching techniques, which all contribute to the birth of the personalized-courseware-based teaching method.2. The M-Learning system is designed on the foundation of campus wireless network M-Learning model, and applied in relatively small space like classroom. Therefore, compared with the existing M-Learning practice based on SMS or WAP network, the thesis is new and unique at choosing Bluetooth, a short range wireless communication technology, as the network environment of the system, and finds the best solutions for data transmission between mobile phone and computer in practice, which lays a significant foundation for the future extensions of current system.3. The system provides students with the way of personalized learning and increases their enthusiasm in autonomic learning and learning efficiency. Concretely, the system transmits the spot class scenario (teacher's voice) and courseware content (slides) to the Symbian smart phone by Bluetooth network. Therefore, the students can choose the courseware and voice content they need freely in class, and review course content with the help of M-Learning facilities at any time and any place after class.4. The system renders a possibility for teachers'implementation of personalized teaching. The teacher could examine the diagram which shows the record of students in their using the system in class and after class and could get the information of the time period (the start point and stop point) of voice content the students selected and download times of other courseware. In brief, the thesis provides some help for the improvement of teaching quality and the implementation of course reform. The work in the thesis is supported by the STCSM's Key Scientific Research Project 06DZ15008.
