Electronic document is widely used, which usually contains much important secret information of an enterprise and government. However, due to its easy to edit, copy, and distribute, many problems would occur, such as, piracy, infringement and, secret loss.Digital right management (DRM) based on encryption is an effective way to protect digital copyright and content under access control. If, however, the document is taken out from DRM system, it is no longer under protection. Digital watermark technology provides complements, which can hide the copyright information in the digital document. Moreover, the copyright information could be detected as electronic evidence of the lawsuit.In this paper, a text digital watermark algorithm is proposed which is integrated in a DRM-based electronic document protection system, called as DDPS. The experiment result shows that it can work effectively in digital document copyright protection. The main work of this paper as followed:1. Based on the classification and comparison of existing algorithms of text digital watermark, the requirement of the watermark model applied in DDPS is analyzed.2. Four text digital watermark algorithms are experimented for Word document, including word spacing coding, type size coding, font color coding and typeface coding, and a new algorithm using word spacing coding information is proposed.3. The watermark module in DDPS is developed, implemented, and tested. The result shows that the watermark module can be capable of protecting the electronic document copyright from piracy.
