In the recent years, the information industry, which bases on computer and network, has been greatly developed. At the same time, the requirement for information storage technology has become urgent. Because the disk is impacted by mechanical inertia, its I/O performance becomes a bottle-neck in products improvement. In order to solve this problem, the RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disk Drives) using the redundant technology has been introduced. This technology improves I/O response time. Using the redundancy fault tolerance technology increases the reliability and security of the RAID. The main contents of this paper are as follows:The SAS-based hardware of RAID is realized. Through comparing some common interface technologys, the SAS technology has been researched and SAS wide interface is designed. Combing the SAS technology, the hardware of RAID is realized and the key technique is analyzed.Deep research has been carried out towards several main technologys of RAID design: cache intelligent storage strategy, data distribution strategy, lower case improving strategy in order to obtain optimum performance. Through this Optimal Technique, the I/O performance has been improved and become more adaptable to practical application environment. And this technology will promote the RAID widely used in data storage field. At last, the system is testing and its performance is evaluated. The result shows that SAS-based RAID is better than SCSI and SATA. The conclusion is: SAS-based RAID is single, high cost performance, good expansibility and has great potential application.
