The metrical equipment of typical fragment's average windward area was designed to measuring the fragment's area of cannonball. Combining the typical fragment's windward area with the data of fragments velocity, the initial velocity and velocity decline coefficient can be obtained. It can provide important experimental findings for the country's conventional weapons ammunition experiments.In this paper, the fragments space posture was simulated by "regular icosahedron's method", and the fragment's projective area was measured in 16 different directions, so that the maximal, the minimum and the average fragment's windward areas can be got by data processing.The metrical equipment of typical fragment's average windward area can measure the fragments' windward area manually and automatically, the metrical data and image can be saved in database. The typical fragments could be classified by its dimensions, and the equipment's amplification could be calibrated by the fragments grade. Command was sent by the computer to control the motor' movement and to gather the datas from raster ruler through the serial communication. It was more precise that mass-grade gray scale subdivision technology was used to deal with fragment's image..
