The Research And Implement On Network Management System Based On SNMP Over DSLAM

With the development of computer and telecommunication technologies, Network Management has been a more important technology. Generally speaking, Network Management is the system management of networks, and it can be devided into five functional domains, such as fault management, configuration management, accounting management, performance management and security management. Nowadays SNMP(Simple Network Management Protocol)has become into a most widely used network management module.DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) is the device of ADSL (Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Loop)access network. It is the main function of DSLAM that it multiple connect and relay the uplink data stream from the customer side to the backbone network or the downlink data stream from backbone network to related customer. It is the inevitable trend to equip the network management module on DSLAM. VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) is the one of the key technologies to implement the function of organizing network flexibly. By dividing into several VLANs, the demands of multiple services and customer subdevision can be satisfied, and in the meantime, it bring the reduction of broadcast scope which reduce the probability of occurrence of broadcast storm.Through the interpretations of the module of telecommunication, constituted elements, telecommunication protocol and management information base, this paper has analysed the protocol of SNMP on detail, and in the meantime the description of the function of DSLAM and the principle of VLAN. At last, A method of management of DSLAM used the protocol of SNMP has been proposed. And through the implementation of management of VLAN over DSLAM, the paper has illustrated the process of this method detailedly.
