Wireless technology based on IEEE 802.11 is developing flourishingly recently, but it also become the target of attacking. The study concluded that there are serious defections in WEP encryption mechanism and authentication mechanism. It produced a series of extend protocol by a great deal of reseaching in order to enhance the accessing control and confidentiality of wireless network. But due to the opening characteristic of wireless network,it so easy to be attacked.DDoS attacks is the most difficult to detect and control.Distributed denials of service (DDoS,Distributed Denial of Service) attacks are vicious attack manner to computer network with vasty impact in recently. It brings immensurable loss to network business.Until now, there are no material evolvement in researching the DDoS attack of defensing, detecting and counterattack, no effective method of forecasting the DDoS attack in timely and accurately. So that, the detecting and defensing are the mostly important in network security.A novel approach of DDoS attacks based on network self-similar traffic on WLAN is proposed. This method try to reveal the impact which the DDoS attacks to network self-similar traffic by establishing the normal network traffic model and computering the variety of self-similar(Hurst parameter), to emphasize the parameter standard of judging the DDoS attacks, and to involve with probability distributions of normal behavior on computer network and Distributed denial of service attacks detection threshold. The model employs statistical analysis of data from network connections to find the probability distributions of normal behavior. Based on the probability distributions, the threshold is set for detecting attacks. Also, the feasibility of the scheme is validated through the simulated test. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the model in detecting Distributed denial of service attacks. Furthermore, this model provides some directed sense for other network security detection research.
