With the development of current physics and inertial technology, Ring Laser Gyro(RLG) has been a developing direction of the inertial gyro for its particular strong-point. In the researching and manufacturing process of RLG, how to reduce or remove the lock-in effect is one of the difficult problems, which blocks the development of RLG all along. Through investigation people found that the backscattering of the reflectors in the RLG is the chief reason of the lock-in effect, so one effective method to compress lock-in threshold is the reduction of backscattering. An automated testing system of laser scattering microscope was studied mainly in this paper. The system applies the method of imaging by laser scattering and the technology of virtual instrument. The most uniform area, i.e. the area on which the backscattering is weakest, on the reflector will be detected by this system. The designed system contains three parts: optical path and mechanical structure, image collecting and detecting system, and control software. The optical signal is conversed to electric signal by CCD camera, then the signal is sampled and transformed to digital signal by the image card, and finally the signal is send to the computer to be stored and processed. The electric displacement platform and rotating platform are used to switch the testing position and irradiating direction of the laser. The control software based on LabVIEW has the functions of instruments controlling, parameters setting, images processing and displaying etc. Finally, some reflectors of RLG were tested by using the testing system of laser scattering microscope, and the testing results were analyzed in the paper. The results indicate: under the fixed incident angle of laser, the system can check the scattering light intensity of the reflectors in the chosen area effectively, and selects the most uniform area. Then the scattering light intensity of the most uniform area by the different laser irradiating directions was checked by the system, and determines on which direction the light scattering is weakest.
