A Research On The Upgrade Of Public Library's Core Competence

With the development of the information technology, much has been changed in people's daily life and concept. Most of the public libraries have already used the automated system instead of the handcraft work in the effect of information technology. That will start broad prospects for public libraries. In the other hand, it also brings a big challenge to public libraries. With some changes in people's concept and new industry's quick development, public libraries are facing more and more challenges. In face of the fierce competitive environment, public libraries have to take some measures to upgrade its core competence, and keep its status as city's information hub and cultural centre.This paper bases on public library's core competence, its target is the concept of core competence and how to upgrade it. The whole paper includes three parts: the first part is an analysis on the definition of public library's core competence and its research status in the world. The second part uses a lot of statistical data to analyze the utilization of resources in public libraries of the world. Then use a SWOT method to analyze the deeply reason. The last part is also the most important part, in this part, the paper show some important improved measures on how to upgrade public library's core competence, and it may also develop the public libraries in the direction toward better places.
