Execution Of GPS Navigation Software Testing Based On VSTS

In recent years, with the rapid development of software technology and popularity of application of software product, the increasingly quality requirements of software product by the market, the quality of software products become the focus of attention. Software companies are also aware that the quality of software products is an important goal. Because of the importance and urgency of software quality problem, various methods and technologies are proposed to improve software quality. Software quality is directly determined by the quality of software testing work which is the only effective method to verify whether the software product can complete the desired function. Software testing in software engineering is an essential process in the entire software development and plays an important role.The most important function of GPS navigation software is positioning and navigation. Connected with portable computers, user can then download the GPS information, and use precision to street-level map software, track user's location in the screen in real-time and begin automatic navigation. As users of GPS navigation software require high accuracy of GPS navigation software, testing is particularly important. Software product usually goes through unit testing, integration testing, validation testing and system testing before publication. The task of test engineer is to develop test plans and test cases according to product requirements analyses and other relevant documents, to test product according to test cases and find out various potential Bugs.Visual Studio 2005 Team System (VSTS) is a team development platform of Microsoft, and a high productivity, integrated, scalable development tools of life cycle. It provides powerful role-based new tools for software architects, developers, testers and project managers, and extends Visual Studio integration and production experience from developers to the entire development team. VSTS is not only a software development tool, is also the solution framework model. Most of Microsoft's current project teams use VSTS for the project design, development, testing and management.Based on Microsoft's GPS navigation project and specific requirements of Microsoft Corporation, this paper analyzed characteristic of GPS navigation software, introduced how the author built test environment. designed test cases, queried work items using VSTS, submitted test cases, reported and tracked bugs according to test theory and characteristic of GPS navigation software. Finally, unit testing of online search module using VSTS and scene testing of navigation under navigation view are presented.
