At present, monitoring techniques of large-scale structure both at home and abroad have become the focus of academics and engineers, and in order to ensure the safety of large-scale structure, effective remote monitoring is important. Remote monitoring technology is combined by Internet technology, computer technology and automation technology. With these technologies and by building networks, the information resources and data processing capabilities can be used effectively by remote monitoring system, and the sharing of resources and working together is realized indeed. So the realization of the network of on-site collection system and the realization of the intelligence of the remote monitoring is of far-reaching significance. According to the main characteristics of long-range structure and the long-term demand of real-time monitoring, the paper put forward a project of a remote monitoring system based on LINUX-and-LABVIEW, and carried out a detailed system design and software development of the monitoring center and of the monitoring point.The current system processing the data only by monitoring center is inefficient, so the two-tier network method is designed and implemented in this paper. Firstly the monitoring point is developed by embedded system. The function of achieving the network topology according to the route table and the function of real-time loading algorithm are also realized. The efficient data processing capabilities and the functional customization features of the embedded system are fully utilized, and the monitoring system which can be customized to a variety of monitoring requirements is developed. Secondly, the monitoring center is developed in the platform of LABVIEW, and the functions of real-time display of data, early warning and modal parameters' calculation are realized. Monitoring centre not only could bidirectional communicates with the monitoring point, but also could conduct their own network topology. So the two-tier network formed by the monitoring center and the monitoring point is constructed, and the overall operation and data transmission efficiency is improved by the mutual process of large amounts of data.The system is versatile, high reliable, scalable, and of other advantages. It can have different targets with different data processing algorithms, and also can re-group network dynamically under the same monitoring object. The system will have immense fields of application for its flexibility and scalability. In the paper, the software is developed systematically, and a good foundation is laid for our further research of the hardware support.
