The trend of the motion controller is the open controller based on PC. It combined strong information processing and open character in pc with control ability of motion controller by embedded in the PC easily. This system has strong signal-processing ability and good motion control precision. And more, it is very open for user and it improves the machining precision and flexibility. After analysis of key technology which decides ability of NC, we research the hardware technology and software technology of motion controller importantly.In this paper, we analyze the importance and development of motion controller in industrial control and points out the developmental trend of motion control technology, and design a new generation motion controller.On the basis of analyzing the principle of the Motion controller, a design scheme is proposed in which the chips of DSP+CPLD+ISA are adopted as core. The project combines the strong point of DSP and CPLD. On one hand, DSP has programmable ability and carry out complicated algorithm. On the other hand, because a lot of components of peripheral circuit are integrated in CPLD, the stability is high. At the same time, because CPLD has the reconfigure ability In-Circuit, the motion controllers have open architecture and system design is more convenient. Among the chip, DSP is TMS320LF2407A of TI company and CPLD is EPM7256S of Altera company .According the solutions , circuit module of motion controller is designed and finished two controlled variable output, dual-port output, ISA bus communication, quadruple frequency and counting pulse in CPLD and so on. In the process of system design, simulation waveform in the Programming environment of MAX+plus II of discriminating pulse direction, quadruple frequency and counting pulse with CPLD is gived. Finaly hardware circuit solution is arrived at and testing panel is made.Modularization programme mothod of software is adopted and main control program of DSP is designed including initialization module, control arithmetic module of PID. Finally, work summary is gived and the future is prospected.
