Driving Simulator is an important tool that used in development of automotive products development,researching traffic characteristic of "men-cars-environment" or driving training.It is also a driving training and teaching equipment that can simulate driving operations correctly,and give you the same felling as a real vehicle driving to a large extent.In Driving Simulator,advanced technologies are applied to simulating driving environment,such as 3D computer graphics and virtual reality;the real driving manipulation and dashboard are used to simulate the driving operation and the environment in driving cab,so that a realistic driving environment and experience is provided.Compared with the real vehicle training,it has some advantages like energy saving,safety,economic,less restrictions of time and space or weather,high efficiency and shorter cycle,etc.With the development of computer technology and network,especially the extensive application of internet technology, distributed virtual reality technologies came into real.And which the technology was put into the design of the driving simulator,made the trainees can share the driving environment anyplace and anytime to do their training,also made the driving simulator more flexibility and practicality.The project is based on the completion of Key Technologies R&D Project in Hubei province "Research and Development of Driving Simulator Based on Distributed Virtual Reality Technology " at the first stage,and with the actual needs of the current project,through the information tracking and technical analyzing for the domestic and foreign driving simulator to realize the function expansion and further improve.This article is saying the researching work as following:(1)Researching on the theory and methods of special effect rendering—Various of real special effect simulation have become a hot-points in simulators and game field,also one of the new direction for the VR technology development by its function and advantage on the improving the overall quality scene.According to the feature that the realistic of the traditional driving Simulator is not enough,researching various enhancing special effects,and fusion it to the driving Simulator system,such as brilliant lighting effects and vivid water effects,etc.(2)Researching on the real-time graphics rendering and accelerating technology—The rendering speed of visual simulation scene impact on the real-time interaction of vehicle driving simulator directly,and even affect the feelings and training effect of the trainees.Therefore,advanced graphics rendering algorithm must be used to optimize the scene,accelerating Scene Rendering,on the condition of meet the requirements of the visual image quality to maximize graphics rendering rate as far as possible.(3)Researching on the key technology for the distributed virtual environment—The choice of communications structure,communication protocol and communication model has a close relation with the application of virtual environment system,and has a crucial impact on the system design.By comparison,the system applies Peer-to-Peer network model,broadcast communicates with UDP protocol, meantime improves the implementation efficiency by using multi-threading technology and thread pool,makes the users in different locations can do the driving training in the same virtual environment by network.
