The Lack And Reconstruction About Peasants' Discourse Right In TV Media

"The three problems of Chinese agriculture, rural area and peasants", which is a heavy historical topic in China and a focus of everyone at present, becomes an issue that China cannot shun on its way of modernization. As TV media have the greatest influence and the largest audience in China, it should concern about "the three problems of Chinese agriculture, rural area and peasants" and provide the expression channels and discourse space for peasants. However, the author of this thesis found that the fact is not the case after researching and analyzing the TV report about "the three problems of Chinese agriculture, rural area and peasants" by discourse theory. Although peasants are the subject of "the three problems of Chinese agriculture, rural area and peasants", their voices in TV media are basically in a state of aphasia and marginalization, which features on its lack of discourse space, the discourse content deviation, the absence of (peasants as) subject of discourse, the lack of dialogic. In order to explore the reconstruction about peasants' discourse right in TV media, the author of this thesis studies Topics in Focus as a successful case, and puts forward some suggestions. This thesis is divided into three parts as following.The first part is preface. In this part, the author of this thesis recalls the history of "the three problems of Chinese agriculture, rural area and peasants", and draws forth the peasants' discourse right, and then summarizes the current survey for the rural news and communication home and abroad as well as the peasants' discourse right in the report about "Chinese agriculture, rural area and peasants".Part two is texts analysis. The first chapter analyzes "the three problems of Chinese agriculture, rural area and peasants", and reveals that it is the can-do and should-do thing for TV media to calling for it. Chapter II analyzes the present situation of programs about "Chinese agriculture, rural area and peasants". Chapter III illustrates the lack of peasants' discourse right. Chapter IV studies "the three problems of Chinese agriculture, rural area and peasants" on Topics in Focus as a successful case. Chapter V points out that the TV media should have the accomplishments in the reconstruction about peasants' discourse right.The last part is epilogue. The author emphasizes once more the significance on peasants' discourse right, and further points out that the full realization of peasants' discourse right needs the efforts of the whole society.
