With the rapid development of digital multimedia service, Mobile Multimedia is attracting more and more attention. Great desire of enjoying high quality video service at one's pleasure through INTERNET is pushing video compression design shifting from memory-oriented to transmission-oriented. MC-3D wavelet video compression method has provided an solution for scalable transmission which assumes that all the video information can be decoded on various displayers with different window sizes, such as mobile terminals, DVD players or Movie players of cinema, after once encoding only. And this codec can ensure some display quality, no matter which channel the transmission takes in.MC-3D wavelet video compression can be implemented as MCTF+JPEG2000. MCTF means motion compensation and temporal filtering. It highly reduces the energy of the high frequency subband and, As a result, greatly improves the efficiency of the compression coding. MCTF+JPEG2000 system is a hardware solution and provides real-time decoding. MCTF decoder is realized by coding on DSP, and JPEG2000 decoding is done by ADV202 Asic.This paper has provided a deep research on the transplantation and optimization of MCTF decoder on DSP. Five parts included:1. The design of MCTF codec in MC-3D wavelet video compression solution. Framework, basic arithmetics and important parameters have been clearly explained. In this section, the result of the decoder running on PC has been provided. 2. Transplantation of the MCTF decoder. A set of DSP transplantation scheme have been proposed according to TI 64XX DSP, which may include memory-allocation, interruption setting, data type transation, DSP/BIOS configuration, EMIF setting and Bootloader auto-setup test. Some tests have been taken on the transplated codes under CCS environment, and proved the feasibility of implementing the MCTF decoder onto DSP.3. Optimization of MCTF decoder. At least 12 kinds of optimization techniques have been implemented on this decoder, including optimization of the compiler setting, memory-allocation and C code writing, improving parallel computing, using profile and tune tools, using Compiler Intrinsics, including DSPLIB function,writing Linear assembly code, implementing EDMA, Multi-task and PING-PONG memory structure. Tests and evaluation have been taken on DSP, and finally a real-time MCTF decoder has been brought out.4. Configuration of external interface of MCTF decoder. This section gives a brief introduction to the configuration of the interfaces between DSP and external displayers or ADV 202 board. It provides a complete MC-3D wavelet hardware video decoding system as well.5. A conclusion has been given. The need to be further addressed, as well as the direction of future research and improvement ideas.
