With the development of the technology of computer and information technology, the security of the information is becoming more and more important. As electrical of the sensitive information gives people more convenient, its security, such as the leak of data and resource, is becoming one of the major hidden peril people must give attention to. At the information of the globalization period, virus, hacker, wire tapping and cheat, network attack and so on, all of these are great issues people must face. For these reasons, encryption attracts people's attention at ease. However, the traditional software encryption become more and more unsatisfied, not only their speed of calculation, but also the safety of the system. Then, hardware equipments show their importance, hardware encryption moudule become more and more important. But their security still has some problems, and research on security will be an issue for a long time.The paper presents several popular encryption algorithms and standards, and gives a further introduction on the typical RSA public key cryptography. RSA algorithm can be digital signatures, data encryption and decryption; it will be a great significance to apply it to the field of data security.For the various advantages of the hardware encryption to the software encryption nowadays, the paper focuses on the RSA algorithm design and implementation based on FPGA. FPGA is the focus of VLSI design in recent years. Its speed, cost etc. are all occupy a certain advantages.The paper mainly research on two aspects: prime detection in key generation part, and modular multiplication; exponentiation operation that is the critical bottleneck in encryption/decryption part. Based on the design, a software and hardware complication, simulation, verification and testing are programmed.The paper also simplely introduces the IC which is one of the fields of application. It can descript the application of the encryption module, demonstrate its practical value.
