Design Of Honeypot In Wireless Local Area Network

With the development of computer network, wireless local area network (WLAN) increases extensively in the application of network for its easy deployment to access to wired network. The security problems of WLAN should be the focus of network too. However, its safety issues are even more serious when we refer to its RF (Radio Frequency) transmission.Honeypot, a proactive defense strategy, has been used to record the actions of hackers. It obtained good results in wired network, which has great advantage in the value of data, resource and other aspects. It was for this reason that it has been extended to other IT environment, such as 3G by Christos K.D. We think it should be a so good idea in WLAN that we could try to extend the honeypot to the WLAN.Our material work is as follows: at first, we extend honeypot in the WLAN. We will present a scheme of WLAN honeypot on the basis of the successful and mature wired honeypot example which is on the design principles of low-cost, easy-to-manage. We present the design of establishing wireless virtual honeypot basing on a virtual AP. Our design will help the researchers to enhance wireless network security by studying the information from honeypot in WLAN. Then, we will tell our design detailedly to demonstrate the feasibility of wireless honeypot by experiments research. We use the game-theory to demonstrate the feasibility of wireless honeypot in theory by follow.It is because our honeypot system is based on single computer operation system, that it is extensible according to environment of honeypot and it could be neatly adjusted to the proper scale according to the practical situations. The design could achieve the good control of low-cost using WLAN virtual honeypot proposed in our paper. On the other hand, it also can be used as wireless networks experimental tool to test the related things.Yet, there still are several problems in the scheme. Our paper only considers of so general environment settings that complex environment in WLAN is not involved, such as mobile IP, multiple honeypots and so on. However, its complex one could be able to achieve in view of open-source-code Linux system, it will be our future work.
