Data warehouse, as the basis for decision support system, mainly provides support for decision-making. The significance of the data warehouse is to establish a system of data storage environment, which isolate the large amounts of data needed for decision-making from traditional operating environment and transform scattered and inconsistent operation data into integrated, unified information. Different departments of the enterprise within this single environment can find new vision, new problems, new ideas and analysis to develop a systematic decision-making system and gain more operating efficiency. However, there are many difficulties in the development process as the data warehouse system includes many key technologies. These relatively significant issues can be described as follow: high software complexity, low software reuse, poor system architecture flexibility, poor scalability, not quickly adapting to new environment, difficulty of the organic integration between different systems and so on. In order to solve the problems above, this paper presents to build a data warehouse system of manufacturing-oriented on the basis of the domain engineering theory and software component technology.In domain engineering, several systems in a domain are analyzed, and their commonalities and variabilities are identified. Through development for reuse, domain-specific components and the architecture are produced. Domain engineering approach helps successfully for software reuse. The specific method is first to construct a data warehouse model for the manufacture domain, and then generate a common architecture or formation process for application systems in this domain using by the domain model. Finally, on this basis the reusable components can be identified, developed and organized. In this way, when developing different data warehouse systems in the same manufacture domain, the developers can select the feature under the domain model and the requirements analysis of application-specific systems. Then, the developer designs the application systems according software architecture of the domain. Finally, the developer can select reusable component from component library of domain to assemble the system and create the new system.This paper applies the construction technology for domain oriented data warehouse to the data warehouse system of Steel Company. The fact shows that it provides a new approach to success in developing data warehouse systems in manufacture domain. In addition, it contribute to improve software reuse, reduce software complexity, improve software productivity and reduce software development and maintenance costs of data warehouse system in the modern enterprise.
