The Development Of UG Based CAD System Of Configurable Mold Bases

Mold base is basic component of mould design and manufacture. Mold base design is an important part of the entire mould design. The actual product requirements of diversity and the lack of unified mold base standards in various countries and regions result in various mold base types exist. In addition, mold base design process is a process of constant improvement and further amendments. Design engineer will continue to correct the design production during the design process. So how to use the technology of Mould CAD to achieve configurable mold base design and help technical staff fast and efficient complete mold base design for mould manufacturing is of great significance.The author analyzes the injection mold design and manufacturing processes and structural characteristics of Mold. On the basis of it, the author sets up a framework of CAD system of configurable mold bases, and defines the functions of its modules. The key techniques to realize the system are studied. Variables of parts associated and transfer of information from the whole process of mold design are put forward. Based on the principle of realizing system function, the author creates mold configuration file and design reasonable data structure, which can help data storage of CAD system of configurable mold bases and configuration information record. In view of the type of mold bases and its components, different methods of parametric feature modeling are proposed. Meanwhile, the extension of the library of parts parametric feature modeling is implemented by interactive operation.On the basis of the researches, CAD system of configurable mold bases has been built on the UG platform, which provides a valuable reference for professional design on universal CAD platform.
