With the technological development of automation, computers, communication networks, control and modular intergration, industrial control networks also continue to develop. It has developed from the distributed control system (DCS) based on analog signal transmission to digital, intelligent, the scattered fieldbus, and industrial Ethernet.First of all, the paper briefly introduced the development and research status quo of fieldbus and industrial Ethernet, as well as several current popular fieldbus andindustrial Ethernet. The paper chose one representative fieldbus------ControlNet andindustrial Ethernet------EtherNet/IP as research objects. ControlNet and EtherNet/IPwere offered by America Rockwell Automation corporation. Based on the description of their network model and their protocol analysis of each layer, the paper summarized their advantages and disadvantages of ControlNet and EtherNet/IP.As industrial control networks, ControlNet and EtherNet/IP must meet real-time demands. Through media access control(MAC) protocol of data link layer in ControlNet, the paper analyzed its communication mode, MAC frame and concurrent time domain multiple access(CTDMA) algorithm, established and simulated delay mode, at the same, analyzed the real-time performance. In virtue of experiment, gain how the network parameters affect the network performace. The conclusion was actual significance for network optimization. The paper also adopted media access control protocol of data link layer in EtherNet/IP, anayse its communication mode, MAC frame, carrier sense multiple access with collision detection algorithm. Trough dalay model of EtherNet/IP, analyse its real-time performance and advance the ways of improving the real-time performance. ControlNet and EtherNet were both open industrial control networks, their application layer also both adopted common industrial protocol(CIP). Because the same application layer, they can be seamlessly integrated. The paper gave the detailed description of CIP. At last, the paper compared the performance of ControlNet and EtherNet/IP and analyzed their future development.
