J2EE is a continuously-developing technology. With the development of J2EE, the development of open-source projects has reached a new level, which results in many new thoughts and new application programming frameworks. At present, the lightweight J2EE frameworks which are represented by Struts, Hibernate and Spring have become more and more popular in the non-distributed Web application fields. E-Mail is one of the most frequently-used Internet application services. The E-mail Service provided by the Web has become one of the most important ways for E-mail application. This thesis emphasizes on the basic theory, design ideology, system architecture and development process of the WebMail system that utilizes the lightweight J2EE framework as well as the summary and prospects of lightweight J2EE framework. Firstly, JavaMail, Spring, Struts, Hibernate and other related J2EE technologies are discussed, and the various technical points adopted by the system are also described. Secondly, the system architecture is thoroughly analyzed. In addition to that, the thesis presents the original aim of the design for different modules, including the overall system design, the modular design, the layer separation, and the database design. Finally, the thesis has a deep insight into the detailed implementation of the system, giving a big picture of the implementation principles and workflows for corresponding modules and specifying the key codes and development steps. Moreover, the realized system results are demonstrated. What's more, the prospects for the system extension and the development expectation of the lightweight J2EE are highlighted.
