Nowadays, Ad hoc network has been one hot research subject in telecommunication technology fields because of its wirelessness, self-organizing and multihop characteristic. It is widely used in military, recovery, commercial, civil and temporary communications and other fields. The communication protocols are difficult and complicated for the mobility of nodes in Ad hoc network, so the study of actual mobility models is important and significant.Several mobility models are first introduced and then a new mobility model for Ad hoc network-advance group mobility model is presented in this paper. The proposed model is based on the concept of group mobility. In the model, not only the cooperation among nodes is realized, but also certain randomness is assured, which may yield more realistic behaviors. The movement pattern of mobile nodes in this model is characterized by time interval, speed and direction, which reflects a certain degree of randomness. But all the nodes go forward together for their moving direction is restricted in a range. The expression for the probability of link availability in this model is derived. The MATLAB simulation result indicates that there is a better consistency between actual statistical link availability and theoretic link availability. Finally, this paper deals with the effect of this model on routing protocols by the OPNET simulation.
