A final version of image data compression algorithm standard was proposed by the Data Compression Working Group in Consultative Committee for Space Data System (CCSDS) in 2005. Compared with JPEG2000, which is the most popular image compression algorithm currently, CCSDS has a brand new structure. The basic components of CCSDS consist of discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and bit plane encoder. DWT is implemented with 9/7 biorthogonal wavelet transform similar as JPEG2000, and the bit plane encoder is much easier than the EBCOT module in JPEG2000. Thus, the complexity of CCSDS is much lower than that of JPEG2000. Since the CCSDS image compression method is used in the complex spatial environment where exits much noise which produces error code, the goal of CCSDS image compression method is to enhance the reliability and the validity of transmission. The error-resisting code is one of the important methods to enhance the reliability of transmission. This paper adopts RS code which is a kind of important linear grouping codes in the error control field. Because of its strong ability in resisting the random error and burst error, it is widely applied in many kinds of Error-Resisting system.
