This thesis is about the development of the materials management information system of certain Shanghai Electric Materials Company, which is a project from realworld. On the basis of analysing the problem that exists in materials management system at present, combining the rationale and the method of the MIS(Management Information System) development, we have developed a set of materials management information system,which has gained comparative success.Firstly, the article presents the relevant techniques and business setting for the development of the system. Secondly, it advances the entire design goal by making analysis of business material management demand. After going into deep analysis of the demand the article puts forward the modular function division of the system, and designs the system in depth in the light of the design targets and principle of the materials management information system. Thirdly, the article elaborates on major technical means used in the key module of the system. Lastly, the article makes a summary of some imperfect parts existing in the system, and presents the writer's own idea on the improvement of the system.The successful application of the system, it provides enterprise with a set of scientific, effective management instrument, which makes it simpler and effective for them to manage the logistic process, it increases the degree of sharing of current data, it avoids slow-speed working and realize the modernization of material management, enhance the logistic speed, shorten the product circulation time, thus, reducing warehouse storage, improving production arrangement and achieving better economic benefits.
