Research Of Automatic Meter Reading System Based On GPRS

In recent years, with the rapid development of housing industry in our country, the need of energy consumption and management, and improvement of living standards, we need intelligent building of higher standards, and the automatic meter reading system has developed very fast. This is the result of advancing energy management, and the rapid development of electronic technology, communication technology and computer technology.This thesis focuses on the design of the remote automatic meter reading system based on GPRS. It compares various meter reading systems, and designs the most appropriate one, which makes use of RS-485 and GPRS.The automatic meter reading system contains meter, collector, concentrator, master station and channel between them. The thesis includes the design of hardware and software. The hardware design is the design of meter, collector and concentrator. In the system, RS-485 is used in the channel between meters and collector, collector and concentrator, so data can be transferred more reliably. GPRS is used in the channel between concentrator and master station as the long distance. The hardware design follows low-cost and high reliability, and is able to finish basic functions of reading meter. The software design has designed the flow of data acquisition, clock reading and writing, communication protocol, AT command control and GPRS communication of meter, collector and concentrator.In the thesis, there is only one concentrator with GPRS module in one building, instead of one meter with GPRS module. This design reduces investment and saves limited network resource. The system makes use of FRAM, which writes more frequently than E~2PROM and needs less power. In accordance with the design, the system is able to read data from meters of consumers. The speed of RS-485 communication and the bard rate of GPRS communication are set to 9600bps. The system is also able to finish parameter setting, error correction, analyzing and so on. It is able to monitor all the meters.
