With the advancement of video codec technology,embedded operating system and network technology,video surveillance technology develops greatly on the directions ot digitization and networking.Memory space can be greatly saved by the codec technology of video data.Remote monitoring and long distance transmission of the video are realized by the network,so a great change has taken place in the field of video surveillance.Embedded system has the characteristics of low power consumption,small size and high integration,it has been the developmental tendency applying in the intelligent surveillance system.In order to select a suitable DSP Chip for a specific system,the processing capacity,cost and I/O configuration of the DSP chip should be considered carefully.TMS320DM6437 is a high-performance low-cost multimedia processor manufactured by Texas Instruments(TI),its operating frequency is 600 MHz and computational capability can achieve 4800MIPS,the functions such as H.264 codec with the resolution of D1,audio and video synchronization and network communication are supported,and the cost is just half of its former generation.TMS320DM6437 is suitable for the application of the low-cost network digital surveillance system.An intelligent video surveillance system based on TMS320DM6437 is established in this paper.The modules such as the collection and processing of the video,network communication,storage etc are designed and realized.Combined with the design and programming of the modules,the development process of the network digital surveillance system based on DM6437 is introduced comprehensively.It contains the completion of the chip's driver program,the design of the system framework on the real-time operating system DSP/BIOS and the algorithm integration.The toolbox of IMGLIB made by TI is adopted and the video can be processed temporally in the surveillance procedure.The noise in the video image is eliminated in the pre-processing process and the motion objects are extracted by the frame-difference method.Whether the encoding information is stored is decided by the results of motion detection,the memory space for the digital video can be saved and the effectiveness of the network communication is improved,the intelligentization of the system is further developed. While the H.264 codec is processed on the video data,the codec engine is called. Finally,the network communication is realized between the DSP and PC by making use of NDK.
