The plasma waveguide is a microwave device with many characteristic advantages over the ordinary waveguide. It is small, light, electrical tunable, magnetic tunable and undetectable. Therefore, the research of the plasma waveguide is of great meanings. In this paper, theoretical research together with the simulation and experiment method on the plasma waveguide and the solenoid are adopted in order to improve the application of the plasma waveguide.In this paper, the dissipation theory and propagation mode of the electromagnetic waves in the metal bounded plasma waveguide and the pure plasma waveguide is deduced. Based on it, an equivalent circuit model of the plasma waveguide on HF band under hydromagnetic approximation is presented. In the meantime, the design and manufacture of a watercold solenoid are presented. The aim of these works is to make solid foundation for the research of microwave plasma devices and confirm the possibility of making a plasma waveguide and a plasma filter and advance the plasma technology.In this paper, the dissipation theory and the propagation mode of the metal bounded plasma waveguide and the pure plasma waveguide are discussed first. Then the analytical solution of the electromagnetic field is presented. Research shows that under hydromagnetic approximation on low frequency of the plasma waveguide, the coupling of the electric field and magnetic field is weakened. The basic propagation modes under this circumstance are TM mode and TE mode. Therefore, an equivalent circuit model according to the propagation modes is proposed based on the transmission line theory and equivalent theory. At last, based on large amount of simulation results, a large watercold solenoid with a uniform range of 0.5m long and a tunable magnetic field range of 0~1000Gauss and a weight of 203.5kg, is designed and manufactured.
