Due to its lower construction and operating costs, higher transmission rate, transmission distance and so on the advantages, Wireless LAN is favored by us. With the widespread use of the mobile terminal, such as notebook PC and PDA, the demand for wireless access have become increasingly prominent. WiFi as the mainstream of the wireless access standards is getting more and more industy's concerns because of its flexibility and mobility. How to intergrate the WiFi to the embedded terminal has become a hot spot in the development of embedded systems.In this thesis, on the basis of the research and development of the embedded multimedia terminal, we intergrate the WiFi to the terminal to meet the wireless internet surfing function and the basic multimedia entertainment at the same time. The hardware platform is built on MP201, MP201 is chosen because of its excellent price to performance ratio. Linux version 2.6 is applied to embedded operating system . It is an open source, free and very mature embedded operating system so that multimedia product using this operating system must have a very large market foreground.Firstly, the article briefly introduces the basic concepts of embedded systems and WiFi, and then analyse the technical characteristics of wireless local area network and the advantages and disadvantages of embedded Linux. Secondly, the article dicusses the system's overall hardware design and performance characteristics of processor MP201, and then detailedly introduces the design of the WiFi circuit on the basis of MP201 processor. Thirdly, the article briefly discusses the buiding of software development platform, cross-compiler environment and the configurations of Linux2.6 structures. Based on this development environment, we realize the design of the WiFi driver including the preparation of structure and function of the compiler module. Finally, through the debugging and evaluation of the WiFi, the article makes a summary of some imperfect parts existing in the WiFi functions, and presents the writer's own idea on the development of the system.The successful implementation of the WiFi function brings more entertainings of the multimedia terminal and makes it easier of the mobile internet and data sharing for users.
