This paper expounds the research on target distance measurement detailedly based on the principle of binocular stereo vision. The theory and its implementation were demonstrated in detail in accordance with the geometric model of binocular stereo vision, At the same time, the analysis and experiments of camera calibration were carried out in detail, finally two calibration were carried out based on different methods .the result of calibration accuracy can meet the design requirements.According to the image presented, the features of edge and points were used in feature extraction, and a kind of method of corner extraction focuses on multi-scale Harris corner algorithms was demonstrated; A kind of image matching method based on texture of image was introduced, experiments prove to its robust, if there is a larger rotation in images, this method have a good performance.Sub-pixel location of the same point have been done via a great deal of research, A method of Sub-pixel location is introduced based on the combination of quadratic & three surface fitting, experiment show its quality of high accuracy.Finally, the range finding experiment show its good measure result, and the necessary precision analysis is discussed subsequently.
