As the core protocol of NGN (Next Generation Network), SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) becomes hot research spot of global communications field. SIP is an application-layer control protocol that can establish, modify, and terminate multimedia sessions (conferences) such as Internet telephone calls.First, this dissertation introduces the principle of SIP, studies the architecture, the message mechanism, and the realization mechanism of SIP, and gives the call flow of SIP. Second, after the comparison of SIP development mode being completed, JAIN (Java Advanced Intelligent Network) SIP stack is selected for the development of SIP application. The architecture, functions and pivotal classes of JAIN SIP stack were explained in detail. Besides, hidden danger which may appear in the realization process of SIP protocol is deeply analysed. Last, based on the theoretical study above, this dissertation designs a secure communication application software of SIP and gives a test. The main work is to analyze the communication process of SIP, design the overall framework of communication software; design the flow chart which is divided into UAC (User Agent Client) and UAS (User Agent Server) two groups; program the service with JAVA language according to flow chart, complete the writing of source code. Aiming at hidden danger which may appear, TLS (Transport Layer Security) is selected for the development of security issues. This dissertation designs the overall framework of a secure communication software of SIP; designs the flow chart; completes the writing of source code. This dissertation tested the SIP secure communication software on local area network. The results show that this dissertation realized the secure communication from UAC to UAS.With further study of SIP communication and security mechanism, this dissertation has developed a secure communication application software of SIP which based on JAIN SIP stack and TLS. It has certain reference value for research on the next generation network technology and the SIP service realization.
