Multimode radar may be adaptive to requirements of different missions and electromagnetic environments through its flexible system resource administration and is one of important inspect of radar research with good prospect of applications. This paper, based on experience gained from engineering practice, introduces main key technologies and engineering realization of some one kind of multimode radar.The multimode radar used in training range for radar countermeasures test employs active phased array with distributed sub-array. It is a kind of practical system incorporating 3D radar, 2D radar, tracking radar and TWS radar into one single platform. Its fully solid-state 2D electrically scan phased array antenna may fulfill shaping of radar beams in various technical modes by means of controlling phase of radiation elements. Into the signal processor are introduce pulse compression done with FPGA, real-time broadcast memory net for network communication so as to meet the requirements on real time and universalization of signal processing. Adopting general timing match technology, the timer may produce systematic timing satisfying operating needs of radar in various modes.Taking addition of 2D electrical scan 3D mode into this radar as example, this paper also suggests that by redeployment of system resource the multimode radar could obtain the potential of simulating new-type radar and adaptable to new demands and here are presented part of test data of multimode radar.
