Over the past two decades, mobile communication system and wireless communication technology are developed rapidly, and fixed voice communication service is being replaced by mobile communication service. At the same time, narrowband mobile data services are also widely used in daily life. Due to the constraints of wireless technology, broadband data services have been supported mainly by the fixed access system for a long time. But the situation will be changed now. With the development of wireless communication standards, such as 802.11, 802.15, IMT, LTE, LTE-Advanced, and 802.16, the broadband mobile data services will be possible in the next decade. Along with rising living standards, people are eager to achieve the broadband wireless service. While the third-generation mobile communication system cannot provide data rates fast enough to meet future business needs, the broadband wireless service have attractive market future. The dissertation first expounds the basic characteristics of wireless channel, including the large-scale fading and small-scale fading, and then briefly introduces the basic physical layer technologies of wireless communication. In the fourth chapter, the dissertation explores in detail the concept, model and requirements of multi base station cooperative communication technology. In this chapter, we propose two kinds of multi-base station cooperative communication system based on MIMO, one is called Macro-diversity, another is known as Virtual MIMO. Then a detailed analysis of these two models for specific scheme and system design is presented. Next, we construct a simple system-level simulation platform, including the channel model, SINR calculation, adaptive modulation coding and resource scheduling modules; and the proposed multi-base station cooperative communication scheme have been carefully evaluated and compared. At the end of this dissertation, we draw the conclusion about the proposed technologies, as well as the other cooperative communication technologies which need further explosions are presented.
