Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is a multihop provisional autonomy system that is made up of a group of portable terminals with wireless transmitter, in whichmobile nodes communicate with each other without the required intervention of any centralized access point or fixed infrastructure. Because mobile terminals have routing functions and the address of mobile terminals always changes, routing protocol has become a research hotspot recent years. Meanwhile, as a result of the advantage of thecluster architecture which are the nice expansibility, the unlimited scale, the smalleroverhead and easier to implement the mobile management and local synchronization in network, there already have much research and achievement on the cluster routing protocol.After analyzing and comparing the routing mechanism for existing cluster routing protocol based detailed describing the concept of Mobile Ad Hoc Network, this paper proposed a new cluster routing protocol named Reliable Dynamic Source Routing based Cluster Label in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks(CL-DSR) for large-scale network environment. The agreement divides the entire nodes in a network into lots of mutually independent clusters, and the nodes in the network use routing backbone which is formed by cluster labels to execute route discovery and maintenance. CL-DSR also uses four parameters such as route's bandwidth, unused buffer, and transmission delay to make a comprehensive evaluation of the routing in route selection. The agreement combines label route with node route in data transmission and route maintenance process and let the pre-node in failure link to participate in the routing maintenance to enhance the performance of the agreement.In this paper, the route request, route reply and route acknowledge in the header of DSR have been expanded. The paper first added stability and the value, unused buffer and the value, bandwidth and the value and time extension and the value into route request packet, then use cluster label list instead of node address list in route request and reply packets to adapt to the requirements of the new agreement.Finally CL-DSR was simulated with NS-2 and the simulation results demonstrate that CL-DSR has a good performance of high reliability, high transmission rate andlow transmission delay compared with classic DSR protocol, especially in highlydynamic networks. The agreement improves the performance by increasing appropriate control overhead. The performance improvement will be more obvious when network topology changes more rapidly.
