Time delay is a common phenomenon in many industrial processes. Because of the time delay, the disturbance can't be observed in time and the system output can be affected after a long time and the parameters of controller can not be selected easily. Because of insufficiency of the parameters selected, the control performance of the system will be deteriorated, and then the system will not be steady. When the parameters of complex system are variable by time, it is more difficult to design the control system.A new model class of process systems is introduced in this paper, which is defined as combined integrating systems. Combined integrating systems exist frequently in tobacco industry; but they have not been well recognized and studied. This class of processes is often considered as first order plus time delay process and is controlled by routine PID control algorithm or by artificial intelligence method, such as fuzzy control strategy. Due to the speciality of the process, it is not effective to control combined integrating systems and leads to bad control accuracy with PID control algorithm or artificial intelligence method. Sometimes it is hard to control this type of processes under closed-loop. So it is important to research on the characteristics and control algorithm of combined integrating systems.Fuzzy-PID controller algorithm is designed for combined integrating systems, which is of both fuzzy control that is flexible and adaptable advantages, but also has characteristics of high precision PID control. The aim is to provide combined integrating systems an effective control method. By comparing the PID controller algorithm we obtained that Fuzzy-PID controller algorithm has a good robustness and immunity. Fuzzy-PID controller is not only suitable for combined integrating systems but also suitable for other complex process. The superiorities of the new control method over traditional control method are simple to design, easy to tunning, fast to step is of response and good in robust stability, which means new control system important significance in industrial applications.Since controller and predictor in this self-adaptive control system can overcome the change of model parameters, precision of object model required by control system can be reduced, and system has better robust and control performance. Aiming at some kinds of typical control arithmetic and making use of MATLAB language, it analyzes and contrasts the influence of various arithmetic that caused by the change of system parameters. Simulation results have shown that the proposed method has better control performance and reveal good application potential for the large time-delay processes.
