Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is a hot research field which has got much attention internationally. It integrates technologies of sensors, embedded computing, modern network and wireless communication, distributed information processing and so on. Through the mutual cooperation among all kinds of sensors, the data from various detected objects can be measured, sensed and collected. The data are transfered in a wireless method and arrive the end device in the way of self-organized and multi-hop network routing, resulting in direct dialogue between human and the nature. The wireless network specification WIA-PA is a communication protocol specification, which is proposed by more than 10 agencies, such as Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, based on the IEEE 802.15.4 specifications and oriented towards process automation. The specification had been published as a public available specification by the International Electrotechnical Commission, on October 31, 2008. It has been one of important specifications in industrial wireless field. For realizing the industrial application of WSNs, and promoting the development of the WIA-PA specification, the implementation of a WIA-PA network node development platform is studied and discussed in this thesis deeply. Firstly, the WSNs, industrial wireless technology and the wireless network specification WIA-PA are analyzed and described briefly. Then, the whole design of the system is described, including the system specification, the design architecture for the entire platform and its hardware, the main devices and the operating system choosing and so on. Afterwards, the circuit implementation of all parts of the platform is presented. Meantime, aiming at this platform, the work for the porting and developing of TinyOS is discussed in detail and the design and development job for the TinyOS supporting package have been completed. Finally, the hardware platform and TinyOS are combined together, and by the basic hardware tests and the function tests on part of the interfaces, the correction for the design scheme of the system is proved, which has laid a good foundation for the future development of the WIA-PA stack.
