With the fast development of Internet and other data communication, the capability demand of long-haul fiber communication system is increasing dramatically. EDFA is comparatively mature, characterized by high gain and high output power but the EDEAs wavelength band is fixed and not band enough, Raman amplification offers the prospect of high gain, high saturation power and polarization insensitivity in a fiber device, combined with a smooth gain spectrum and relatively wide bandwidth. So people thought, if put these two amplifiers together, the hybrid amplifier can not only own wide band and flat gain, but also can get relatively high output power and good noise feature. In the dissertation, we have widely studied the design, the characteristics and the influences of HFA on high-speed optical fiber communication systems, combining theory analysis with numerical simulation. The deduced results have referenced meaning of wide-band and long-distance wavelength division multiplexing systems with huge capacity based on fiber Raman amplifiers and hybrid fiber amplifiers.
