External illuminator based passive radar system utilizes downlink signal from commercial television or radio broadcast station to track and detect aerial object. Thus it can not be threatened by anti-radiation missiles and can provide the ability of detecting stealth targets. The use of non-cooperative analog television video signal as the illuminator for a bi-static radar system is investigated in this paper. Analog TV video signal is analyzed in time domain and frequency domain and two related signal processing schemes are developed at first. Then mismatched filter algorithm is used to suppress Side-lobe and detect targets in analog television video signal based bi-static radar system. Finally, a signal processing scheme that allows air targets to be detected and tracked only using the vision carrier of television broadcast signal is presented. And this EKF algorithm using bearing and Doppler frequency information can estimate target's location and velocity with good precision.
