The manufacturing industry is a pillar industry in national economy, and the mold making industry is no doubt its cornerstone. It is common knowledge that electrodes are basic and key manufacturing resources in mold making. Tens of, even hundreds of different electrodes may be used for making an averagely complicated plastic injection mold. Facing complicated work process and collaborations, plus plenty of production, correspondence and management information, the traditional electrode management mode which mainly relied on hand has been unable to meet the requirements of enterprise development. The electrode management system research in this paper is do aiming at that increasing issue, based on information technology, to realize intelligent management for the whole lifecycle of electrodes involved in mold making.Firstly, this paper summarizes EDM technology, after brief introducing MES, and then explains how electrode management comes about and its relationship with MES. Secondly, introduces UML and its applications in system analysis; starting with the electrode management system functional requirements, uses UML to perform use case, static and dynamic analysis for the system. After introducing relative key technologies, by using object oriented component ideology and building on B/S architecture, completes system modularization, database design and security design with ASP .NET and SQL Sever. Finally, illustrates the system in detail by means of two of its modules. This system realizes seamless linking between all nodes in electrode lifecycle, and centrally stores and manages scattering information to provide real time data and feedback for each node. Completely resolves certain issues such as information not sharing, incomplete, unsmooth and lack of feedback in the traditional electrode management mode. With successfully deployment in a mold making enterprise, this system plays an important role to shorten electrode set-up time, standardize use of electrodes, increase productivity as well as save mold making cost. It also greatly enhances the management and information-based manufacturing ability of the enterprise, and lays the foundation for further MES research and improvement.
