The Realization Of Epg(electronic Program Guide)in High Definition Set-top Box Based On STi 7109

As one of the most important applications that digital TV distinguishes from analog TV, EPG (Electronic Program Guide) has been considered the hot spot of study in the broadcasting field. Nowadays with TV operators demanding more and more TV programs on play, EPG helps DTV viewers sort out their favorite programs from hundreds of programs very quickly and inform viewers the programs both currently aiming as well as scheduled to begin in the near future. At the meantime, EPG allows TV users many interactive applications, such as program reservation, categorization and parental control etc. Those functions have changed the users'viewing habit fundamentally from simply watching programs in the past to watching programs interactively..'The research and development of EPG for HD (High-Definition) digital TV receiver based upon STi 7109'is part of the work I was involved in during internship at a high-tech company in Huizhou, Guangdong. This subject is also a significant part of the project'Development of HD DVB digital TV receiver'. It adopts STi7109 provided by STMicroelectronics as its chip solution. The product was pushed to the market in June 2009 over 1 year of development and is fairly competitive in the international HD receiver market for its stabilization and low price.In this article, we explained the very basic concept of EPG, its current research level and the development trend, we also made a deep research on DVB PSI (Program Specific Information) and SI (Service Information), analyzed several current EPG solutions. And finally, we put forward and implemented the EPG system for DTV receiver based upon the method of DVB-SI.The following tasks are completed in this subject,1, Table analytic module is written and it is proven to work properly by practical TS files.2, Application Interfaces on top software layer are established. The external interfaces and input & output parameters provided by data interface unit of EPG Receiver and EPG User, which will be on upper function call for processing EPG display, are described in detail. In order to facilitate R&D to integrate EPG module, the usage of each interface and input and output parameters are also introduced. 3, The network data structure of restored EPG information is established. The data analyzed out by related tables will be restored into relative data structures for future function call from upper application interface.4. Some related applications such as"Program Reservation"were designed,Through the work of the 4 sections we have done above, the research team has accomplished the development of this EPG module and achieved most of its EPG functionalities.
