As the update and development of IT technology continually, and has been introduced into the field of Industrial Control, Industrial Ethernet technology proposed also has its theoretical basis, its prospects are very broad. In recent years, more and more industrial Ethernet technology has also been applications in industrial control areas.Using Industrial Ethernet technology as the main part of the field bus technology, using the corresponding gateway device, could make field bus technology and industrial Ethernet technologies integrate better and enable Industrial Ethernet technology applied in control system's information layer, control layer, while continuing to extend the bottom layer of the field of industrial control, the emergence of this technology marks a big innovation in fieldbus technology. PROFINET is a innovative open-standards based on industrial Ethernet which belongs to the Profibus International Organizations (PI), and also can use the gateway structure to integrate Profibus devices into Industrial Ethernet, which reduce the cost of product upgrades. Analysing the prospects of the PROFINET technology and the corresponding products, designing a remote I/O device based on PROFINET, which can integrate Profibus devices to Industrial Ethernet networks, also can be designed into a gateway device.According to the technical characteristics of industrial Ethernet PROFINET, a remote I/O devices based on PROFINET was designed, choosing a 32-bit ARM7 chip Atmel, multi-interface according to their characteristics, designing the hardware circuit, whileμC/OS-Ⅱreal-time operation system was transplantded, analysis of realization of the principle the Embedded Web Server, and to achieve the functions of Embedded Web Server, the gateway function from Industrial Ethernet to Profibus, while the remote I/O device achieved Modbus/TCP protocol.The principal functions:(1) In terms of hardware selection, to use multi-interface module with Atmel Corporation's AT91SAM7x256, which made the I/O module with multi-gateway functionality, to make a foundation for the development of multi-purpose gateway device, and having a better market value. (2) In Software development aspect, Embedded Web Server was designed, and its unique EGI (Embedded Gateway Interface) function make it complete more functions. The self-designed IP address translation message could easily carry out IP address configuration from client to the server. (3) to self-designed the dual port RAM handshake protocol for the gateway device, which provides a data buffering solution. (4) The remote I/O devices based on PROFINET Industrial Ethernet could achieve communication between third-party equipment and Siemens PLC through Open IE (Open Industrial Ethernet) mode, meanwhile the I/O device could add Modbus/TCP or other programs to the Ethernet module, which make the application layer protocol of the remote I/O devices more diversity.
