The Material Hardness Measurement System

The major tasks of this paper are the research of Vickers hardness testing system based on the image processing and the implementation of it. Through of study of the existing Vickers hardness testing system, some disadvantages of those algorithms which are used in the existing system have been found. To solve these problems, this paper proposes some new solutions.This paper will illustrate the major four parts of Vickers hardness testing system. They are the principle of Vickers hardness, image acquisition, image processing of the image of indentation, and the implementation of Vickers hardness testing system. The principle part introduces how to measure the Vickers hardness. The image acquisition part illustrates the algorithms about image acquisition, and proposes new solution used in this system, such as auto-focus algorithm. The image processing part is the important part of this system. In this part, this paper introduces some algorithms, for example edge detection of the indentation image, and enhances some algorithm, such as the improvement of canny algorithm. The last part is implementation of the system, including implementation of all algorithms, the controlling hardware of this system and the user interface of program.The Vickers hardness testing system is developed by the Visual C++ and the Labview, and implements the all functions of Vickers hardness testing. This system can meet the needs of user and correctly measure the Vickers hardness value.
