As the development at high speed of wireless mobile communication and mobile terminal technology, wireless ad hoc network has been taken seriously attention to inland and abroad more and more , and has been got extensively use for the military affairs field and civil mobile communication service, and became one of a recent study hotspots in communication field. Routing protocol is one of the key wireless networking technologies, IETF specially established MANET group to study it. Therefore, it is important significance to suit the wireless network routing protocols in the theoretical and practical application research. The paper discussed the concept of wireless network, the characteristics and the key technology for routing protocols, described its features and classification and compared. Currently the AODV and DSR routing protocol are used for most wireless networking and compared for the performance of AODV and DSR routing protocol, got their applicable occasions. This paper aimed at reaching AODV routing protocols in energy consumption of deficiencies, and improved the existing algorithm, designed an energy optimization of routing protocol MTTC– AODV (Minimum Total Transmission Cost AODV). MTTC-AODV's routing target is transmission power and node energy of each hop. It can avoid node energy cost unbalance when power cost is only considered. It also avoids routing interrupt which is lead by the low residual energy when some nodes are frequently used. With the OPNET simulation platform, it set up the network model, process model, and node model, comparing for delay and throughput, energy consumption, the simulation parameters indicated the superiority of MTTC - AODV routing protocol, and finally summarized and prospected for whole research work.
