| Catastrophe is an event that can cause serious loss of life and property, and even threatens the survival of humanity. Since the new century, natural catastrophes, wars and explosions have happened frequently, which obviously indicate that we are entering a globally high-risk society. News media plays a particularly crucial role in the public's understanding catastrophe correctly, government's carrying out relieving in catastrophe effectively and society's giving great importance to catastrophe. Therefore, how to optimize reporting strategy and improve the level of typical catastrophe is the main purpose of this study.Chapter III is the main part of this study. After the analysis of typical catastrophe such as "9·11" Incident, Beslan Hostage Crisis, Indian Ocean Tunami, Virginia Tech Shootings and "5·12" Earthquake, I think there are many differences in China Youth Daily and New York Times, including timeliness, focuses, perspective, news sources and humane care in reporting. In Chapter IV, the writer points that these differences are formed by discrepancy in the view of journalism, cultural traditions, political institutions, media's mechanism and journalists themselves between China and America. Our catastrophe coverage is getting more and more breakthrough, but it still has much shortage compared with America. In the end, I suggest we can improve our catastrophe coverage in many ways, like expanding the content of coverage, pursuing the depth of coverage, enhancing humane care and trying for the best social effect. |
