With the incerasing development of embedded and multimedia technology, more and more products hope to provide various multimedia features in a smaller platform. Meanwhile, wireless network has showed great merits compared with traditional wried network and the standards of wireless network are becoming more maturity. The goal of this thesis is to design a wireless embeded mutimedia terminal, which integrate two functions of video on demand and video monitoring based on the stantard of 802.11b.First, the paper illustrates the overall design scheme of the embedded multimedia terminal, including the introductions of hardware platform, software systme design and how to build the integrated development environment.Second, the design of wireless network modules is heavily discussed. The paper not only describes the 802.11b standard, PCMCIA interface and the building of WLAN, but also discusses design and proting of wireless network interface card driver. At last, the emphasis is put on illustrating the structure of the wireless network interface driver including initialization, data sending and receiving, device control and some matters in the port process.Third, in the part of video on demand, the paper gives a specific design and implement programme, consist of describing system software framework, processing procedure, network sending and reciving flows based on RTP/RTCP, and decoding audio and video streams by FFMPEG.Fourth, the paper analyzes how to design and implement the video capture server, which contains V4L video capturing process, JPEG encoding, and how to provide a friendly GUI by Qtopia.Finally, the test cases and analysis result are provided. The disadvantages of the system are pointed out and we also put forward the improvement in the future development.Following the standard software development process, This design developed a wireless embedded multimedia terminal based on 802.11b to meet the demand according to the present goal of realization, with the theoretical and practical value.
