Geographic Information System is the system to deal with geospatial data information. GIS technology was widely used in social life in recent years. The campus information technology became a hot spot for educational competition among countries in the world. The digital campus is based on real campus, using advanced information technology tools to construct a digital space in order to expand the reality of time and space dimensions of the campus, thereby enhancing the efficiency of traditional school, expanding its functionality, and ultimately fufilling the full information of the educational process.Scene roaming technology is the most important component of the virtual reality. It allows users to freely observe and experience the virtual environment through HCI.The virtual campus roaming system provides the most intuitive expression for campus planning and management. This paper combines the geographic information system and the virtual rendering technique, taking Southwest Jiaotong University and its national experimental teaching center as study subjects, establishing a virtual simulation system, and achieving three-dimensional positioning, path navigation, real-time coordinates indicating, stereoscopic, interactive control, information retrieval, as well as fast switching between free roaming and fixed paths navigation.Visitors can stay at home and visit the structure and layout of the campus, know the information about the experimental center, feel immersive experience at a lower cost to expand the visibility and influence of the center. At the same time the system also can be used as an aid to plan the campus laboratory and provide reference for the relevant laboratory construction and project development.The main work in this paper can be concluded as follows:1) By using Multigen Creator, scene segmentation, texture mapping, level of detail modeling techniques, model degrees of freedom technique, and repeated instances of object technology, scene modeling was achieved.2) ACF file is configured by using LynX Prime, including setting channel, viewing angle, scene initialization,3D vision and so on. Using path tool inside LynX Prime to set several fixed navigation paths, achieves rapid navigation and positioning of objectives that users retrieved.3) MFC is designed to control HCI, friendly and easy to operate, information display and intuitive, achieves fast switching between free roaming and fixed paths navigation, positioning of characters in the three-dimensional simulation system and real-time display of characters'three-dimensional coordinates.4) Achieve interactive control of laboratories doors, and retrieval of laboratories information.The proposed system has good scalability, and can be applied to more laboratories.
