With the development of communication technology and computer technology, users can share files and exchange information easily between mobile devices. With Mobile Ad hoc Networks, wireless mobile users can implement the multi-hop routing communication with other mobile devices that may be out of their direct propagation range by intermediate nodes to forward the packets, which expands wireless access coverage. When some mobile devices need to get a lot of resources from the Internet, they must be configured a unique IP address, and maintain communications with the corresponding nodes through the gateway. In the small-scale MANET network, people can configure nodes manually. But in the large open MANET, the node should be configured easily by an address auto-configuration protocol. In this paper, firstly, we introduce the characteristics, situations of study, the applications about mobile ad hoc network and the integration process with Internet, and then discuss the existing Address configuration protocol. A novel KINSHIP logic tree is proposed according to the relation between a new node and its neighbors when the new node joins a Mobile Ad hoc Network to initialize its IP address. By the binary tree generated by this logic tree, the node can get a local address named by Kinship Address. In order to produce a unique IP address by the Kinship Address, the normal IPv6 address structure is extended by three parts: 64-bit network prefix,32-bit subnet ID, and 32-bit Kinship Address. The network prefix is obtained by listening for IPv6 gateway advertisements. When a new node initializes its IP address, it exchanges information only with one of the one-hop neighbor nodes, rather than with all nodes in the MANET.Then we discuss Network prefix Management, Network Merging and Network Partitioning. After that, the message complexity of this address auto-configuration protocol is analyzed, and the simulation scene is established by the software Glomosim (Global Mobile Information System Simulator). In addition, the other properties of this protocol are analyzed. Compared with other Address auto-configuration protocols, this protocol assigns unique address to node rapidly without performing duplicate address detection. So the overhead is very low.At last, it's the overall summuariztion of the thesis and research expectation of the address auto-configuration protocol proposed in this paper.
