All kinds of technologies are flourishing in the field of wireless communications. Nowadays Cellular Mobile Communication System, Digital Broadcasting System, Broadband Wireless Access System and Satellite Communication System coexist. The heterogeneous trend is much more obvious for next generation network. The research of this paper includes two aspects:horizontal heterogeneous and vertical heterogeneous.GSM,GPRS/EDGE and 3G coexist, which makes the horizontal heterogeneous in the Cellular System. Do research mainly on the optimal allocation of network resources in the horizontal heterogeneous environment. Analyze the key performance parameters of GPRS/EDGE, and establish the KPI system for evaluating the data service networks.Considering the characteristics of voice traffic and data traffic, three dynamic channel configuration methods are proposed:voice service priority allocation scheme, the long-term allocation mechanism based on statistic and the short-term adjustment mechanism based on traffic properties. The simulation results show that the scheme can maximize the data traffic throughput on the premise of ensuring the QoS of voice service. And also it can improve the resource utilization of the network.UMTS cellular network and WLAN are chosen as the studied objects for vertical heterogeneous, because they can complement each other very well. Discuss the internetworking and integration of UMTS and WLAN. Study the vertical handoff and network selection algorithms for heterogeneous wireless networks.Propose a network handoff strategy which can guarantee the QoS of real-time services. Take the critical parameters such as Received Signal Strength(RSS),bandwidth,load,power consumption and delay into account when selecting the network. The QoS of real-time service is guaranteed by setting a load threshold for WLAN. The handoff stability period has been introduced to avoid'ping pong'effect. Finally the simulation proved that the strategy not only reduce the handoff times but also improve the average throughput of real-time service.
