The mobile Ad Hoc network has become the current hot spots. Because, it has the characteristics of no per-existing infrastructure, self-organization, multi-hop, and dynamic topological which are different from traditional wireless network. So it plays an important role in military and civil communication, commercial office and temporary communication. Since nodes in the mobile Ad Hoc networks move freely and instability of wireless channel, how to improve the route more reliable becomes one of the central challenges in the networks. Many routing protocols are proposed, among the numerous routing protocols of the mobile Ad Hoc networks, the dynamic source routing protocol (DSR) is a representative one. But DSR can not provide reliable routing, the main problem of it is the performance degradation caused by frequent route broken. And, DSR uses the way of network-wide flooding which bring out high network overload in the phase of route discovery. So it performs badly in real-time traffics, such as real-time video transmission, because of this it will lead to a big delay. So how to provide reliable routing and control the routing flooding and reduce the time of route discovery and route maintenance's overload become this paper's main aim of research. The routing protocol (G-DSR) based on GPS is proposed in this paper. The G-DSR has been added neighborhood node broadcasting through the topological changes in the original DSR. It has been advanced the new routing algorithm based on the lifetime of the links and improved routing discovery process. During the route maintenance, G-DSR can take active maintenance based on the predicted link-lifetime before the old route is actually broken. Besides, it has been improved the routing salvaging and used new route cache management to decrease the delay and alleviate the influence of stale route in DSR.A lot of simulation experiments have been done under NS2. The simulation results demonstrate that G-DSR can improve the Performance of DSR protocol significantly in the middle-load and heavy-load situations. In the more challenging situations of high mobility, G-DSR is more adaptable. For all of this, G-DSR is an efficient and reliable protocol in wireless ad hoc networks.
